Who We Are
The Navigators at the University of Iowa are a community of students who want to know God and Jesus Christ, and who want to love and encourage each other while walking through life together. There are no prerequisites or specific affiliations required to participate in Navigators activities. We encourage you to come just as you are to enjoy friendship and community with us as we seek to understand who God is and why it matters. Thanks for checking out our group. We would love to invite you to connect with us.
What We Do
We serve as an open door to share Jesus each year through life-on-life relationships, recreation, and discipleship. Our goal is to equip others with the skills and tools for them to advance the gospel wherever life leads. We believe that discipleship is friendship with a vision. The Navigators desire to come alongside, live life with you and to help you know Christ, make Him known, and help others do the same.
Practically, this happens as we ask questions, read the Bible, eat together, bless one another, have fun, pray for and with each other, and through speaking our stories and the story of Jesus to one another.
Who We Serve
We serve the students at the University of Iowa. Go Hawks!
Why We Serve
Navigators ministries believes Jesus came so that everyone who believes in Him "may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). People need this abundant life that God offers through Jesus. The heartbeat of The Navigators is discipleship. Jesus came alongside a few ordinary people at a pivotal point in history and walked with them so that they might know Him, and make Him known. Our goal is to be amongst those we serve. We desire to show them Christ's love in a truthful and powerful way, that will change their lives forever. "We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too." 1 Thessalonians 2:8

Scott and Paige met in the Navigators ministry at the University of Northern Iowa and caught a vision and passion for Knowing Christ, Making Him Known, and Helping Others Do the Same. They served on staff at UNI for 2 years after graduation before pioneering the Navigators ministry in Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 6 years at Coe College, Mount Mercy University, and Kirkwood Community College. Now, they are leading the Navigator ministry at the University of Iowa. Scott and Paige have 3 sons, Caleb, Titus, and James who add a lot of joy and excitement to their lives. For fun, Scott and Paige enjoy hiking, board games, and being together as a family!

Hello! My name is Sarah Altenhofen, and I am grateful to serve with the Navigators here at the University of Iowa! I came to know Jesus through a Navigators ministry in college, and since then it has been a true joy to know Christ, make Him known and help others do the same on the college campus. I truly believe that college students will change the world, and am praying that God would raise up faithful men and women here at the University of Iowa to do just that.

During college I had the incredible opportunity of meeting and becoming a part of the Navigators at Iowa State University. My time in college provided immense opportunity to grow my walk Jesus. As I graduated, I God gave my plans a surprise twist and led me to join staff with the Navigators. I'm am thrilled to now be able to invest in students at Iowa(Go Hawks!) as I pray that many Hawkeyes grow in even greater ways through our efforts on campus.

Hi! My name is Grace Johnson and I am so excited to be serving with the Navigators ministry at the University of Iowa. Being involve with the Navigators during my time as a student at Iowa deeply impacted my walk with Christ. it is a privilege that I get to serve on the same campus I was a student on. I believe that God will use students at the University of Iowa to reach the nations, and pray that god would raise up generations of laborers to go out into the harvest field.

Hey! My name is Hannah Fountain and I am so excited to be serving with the Navigators at the University of Iowa. My life was radically changed when I came to know Christ through a co-worker (who just happened to be a Navigator) in college. It's been an absolute joy to walk with Jesus, help others know Him and walk with Him for the last three years. When I graduated college, I knew that no matter what I was doing, I wanted to help college students walk with Jesus and make disciples, so now that's what I get to do every day. I'm excited to see the ways that God is going to use the University of Iowa students to reach Iowa, the US, and the world for His glory.

Hello! My name is Delia Mozqueda-Fuhrmeister. I joined staff with the Navigators at the University of Iowa to be a part of its biblical vision of discipleship. I have found that many students have heard of Jesus, but they do not know how to walk with him deeply. As a staff member, I get to be a part of teaching students how to study the Bible, share the gospel, and engage in prayer. College is a critical time when students are curious and exploring new ideas. I pray that as these students encounter the Navigators, they will experience Christ in a new way and develop a deep relationship with Him.

Hi! My name's Josie Burd and I have the privilege of serving at the University of Iowa with the Navigators Collegiate ministry. I am going into my first year on staff after having graduated from the University of Iowa last May. God brought the Navigators into my life when I was a stressed and scared college freshman. Through them, He changed my life and deepened my relationship with Him. And now, I get to help others experience the same! What a blessing it is to help students know God's love for them and share that love with others! "And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you." Psalm 9:10
